Document Managing with Views & spec. Doc-Ids?

Hi there,
I am a german student and I am currently evaluating for a small company what free ECM should be used. Main focus is document handling, mostly .doc and .pdf

Firstly I installed alfresco and did the tutorial in the "getting started" pdf. It is really nice, especially the easy use, but I miss some functionality. Maybe I haven't found it yet:

- Views: Files should be stored in a customized tree structure, ok, thats possible. Furthermore the same files should be accessable from another point of view. Like the view-concept from Clearcase.

- IDs: I haven't seen any IDs in alfresco - it would be great, if the ID itself is like a code, so you can immediataly see if it's e.g. a contract and from which project.

Thank you for your help Smiley Happy

The templating services in Alfresco can be used to generate any number of views, as a Custom view panel in the main web-client UI for a folder, or complete custom pages via REST style URLs:

http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/URL_Addressability#TemplateContentServlet

Any new attributes such as IDs for your documents can be created by extending the existing content model. You can then easily customise the UI (via XML config) to show those values and allow your users to edit them. You can also write rules and scripts that modify that set or modify those values based on certain conditions or actions that users have taken.

Hope this helps,
