Document classification problem

Hello -

Please help out the newbie. Smiley Happy

I'm trying to set up alfresco to do very simple document management at a new company - it all looks good, but there's a couple things I'm not "getting".

I want to set things up so that team members can upload content (mainly Word docs), and be able to find documents easily. Here's what I'm doing:

1. Set up a 'Documentation' space under the 'Company Home' and invite users to that space.

2. Set up some sub-spaces under Documentation to handle some hard-wired classification.

When the user uploads a doc to a documentation sub-space, they enter the 'Description' and 'Author' and the doc is available.

A couple questions:

1. Is this the right way to structure things?

2. I've discovered that you *cannot* search on the 'Description' field entered when the file was uploaded - this is a bug?

3. Ideally, I'd like to be able to define a set of properties (if that's the right word) for the user to fill out on file upload - can anyone point me to the docs on how to do this?

Any help is appreciated - I'm thinking I'm doing things "wrong" and so any help would be really great.

Many thanks.

Please - can someone take 5 minutes out to help?

I feel that a pointer in the right direction will help a lot - I'm having troubles eval this without being able to get over these early hurdles.

Many thanks.

2. I've discovered that you *cannot* search on the 'Description' field entered when the file was uploaded - this is a bug?

You can configure the client to search on any field including description by default:

Thanks,
