Displaying the email address of the document author

How can I do this in a FreeMarker template?

Such a simple use case. I must have overlooked something obvious. How do I get access to the people object of a document author?

Strangely you can't do this. You are correct that as a simple use case it should be supported, i'll make sure it's doable for the 2.1 release:
