I don't think it is possible without editing the Surf component. In the current release, the Share UI isn't as configurable with regard to custom metadata as the Explorer client is.

I believe the next release of Share (currently Alfresco Labs 3.2 Preview #2) supports editing of custom metadata (properties only).

If you want to have this working in 3.1 then some changes in Alfresco and Share scripts are required. I have been able to get it working with 3.1. Please see this post for details http://aniruddhchitre.wordpress.com/2009/07/03/custom-metdata-in-alfresco-share/

I've confirmed that you can now do this in Alfresco Community 3.2. I was able to expose custom content type metadata to the Document Library in Share including the ability to search for and change associations. It's part of the new form service and is documented here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Forms

Hi,

you can find a short tutorial here: http://edlovesjava.blogspot.com/2009/07/alfresco-forms-engine-customization.html.

Good luck! (It is actually very simple).

I have followed these instructions, and I'm able to see the custom metadata in share in view & edit mode.  The only problem is that I cannot change the custom metadata values, when i go to save it a dialog box pops up with a "Failed to update metadata"  There is also no log entry when this occurs.
