Disaster Recovery

I posted a similar post on another forum, but I'm switching my question up to be more of a discussion in order to get ideas from everyone willing to chime in.  Thanks in advance for your input.

We have thousands (thousands and thousands and thousands) of documents which are stored in scattered network drives, and on Windows Sharepoint Sites.

Right now, in case of a disaster, we have no way to prioritize the recovery order for our documents (obviously some are more critical than others).  We have around 17,000 employees, and MANY divisions, which is why we have documents everywhere.

Has anybody worked or works on disaster recovery who could provide some advice on how to approach this, using Alfresco?

Right now the idea is basically to add a metadata field (Recovery Priority) to documents uploaded to Alfresco.  The options will be 1, 2, 3, or 4.  Based on the value given, that's the order in which the documents would be recovered.  So, a user would upload a document in their space and select a priority.  Once they click finish, this document would be moved to another server (based on the priority value they entered).  So physically, the documents would live on another server, but visually, we would like them to appear in the alfresco interface, under the users' space, as if it were there.  So in case of disaster, we would recover server 1 first, then server 2, and so on.

This is just an idea, I don't have a clue if it is actually possible or not (the part about the files living on other servers, but visually displaying in the Alfresco interface).

I would love to hear the different scenarios everyone has used or is using when it comes to storing documents, and disaster recovery.

Thanks.

That would require some nifty UI customisation - probably a lot of work. I would suggest instead you take a look at the high-availability and clustering options the Alfresco server already supports.

Hope this helps,
