Disable self joining of sites

In order to use permissions fully, people should not be able to make themselves members of sites by just clicking a button. only an admin should be able to do it.

Because of this, a member just joins the site and gains reader privileges. I dont neccesarily want to hide the site completely but may want to hide some folders/files if a user is not part of the site's members.

Also the invitation button is just likely to confuse users. I mean whats the point of joining you could say? Since you can just do it yourself the permissions for selfjoined members and others must be the same….

How can I do this?

You should only be able to "invite" people if you are the site manager.   Perhaps you are a manager of the site you are looking at?

People can Join the site even if they are not the site manager. They only join themselves they dont send invitations. I want to disable this behaviour however

Have you tried a "moderated" site?
