Determine if workflow exist for a specific peice of content

I have been looking through both jBPM and the alfresco services to find out if there is a way to see if a workflow has been assigned to a specific piece of content.  For instance I may want to create an action that manipulates an object but not if there is a current workflow task associated with it.  Any help would be appreciated.

In WorkflowService, you will find getWorkflowsForContent(NodeRef packageItem, boolean active) method.
I think it is what your were looking for.
