This may not be the best place for this comment. It's a very pie in the sky flavored comment.
Anyhow:
Has there been any thought on how, in the future add on technology will be deployed to alfresco?
e.g.
deploy an aspect
deploy a rule type
I am wondering if it is always it should always be a compilation or "original" war/ear packaging issue.
Is there any merit in having the ability to deploy packaged modules to a deploy directory in the alfresco app and having it explode and incorporate the new resources?
It’s another level of complexity, but it would add a clean for people build, and prepackage alfresco add-on functionality.

Yes - after the October release there will be some effort put into making Alfresco even easier to extend. In particular, how to package extensions and deploy them into Alfresco.
