is there a way to tell alfresco to create a specific content type (not mime-type) instead of the standard "cm:content" when dropping a file into a folder via CIFS?
You can add a business rule for the folder, triggering the content-type specialisation. You have to set that up via Alfresco Explorer GUI, though. CIFS is just the road in.
