Hi Paul,
The long term vision for the Alfresco PHP library is for it to provide the PHP developer with a comprehensive set of native PHP services that provide the full breadth of Alfresco functionality, via the web service layer. We hope that this will make Alfresco accessible to the PHP community.
As you will have noticed we are not there yet, but the current PHP library gives a flavour of what can be done. Development of the library is ongoing, but, due to other priorities, progress is slow. In order to reach our end goal we will be looking to the community to help us.
Over the coming weeks we are hoping to extend the developer area of our web site with a 'forge' where Alfresco side projects can be developed with help from the community.
The current PHP library is a perfect candidate for entry onto the forge and will probably be one of the first projects hosted there. Once in place we will be looking for people, like yourself, with a requirement and PHP expertise to help contribute to its development. We hope that this will ensure it continues to move in a direction that is useful for the community using it, i.e. PHP developers.
Hopefully this answers you questions. If you are interested in contributing to this then drop me a line and I can keep you in the loop as we get things up and running at this end.
Cheers,
Roy
