Contributor, Coordinator, Guest & Group Definition Plus

Hi,

1.) Does any one know where can I get an information about the definition of Contributor, Coordinator , Editor and Guest Role when creating a new user ? I browse some time on Wiki side, but could not manage to get any doc regarding this topic. Smiley Sad

2.) I have tried to create a user A with Contributor Role, a user B with Coordinator and a user C with Guest Role. However, after I tried to login using respective Role, it seems there is no difference, i.e: all Role can access all Menu Items (creating Space, etc.)

3.) How do we setup a space and allow non member user (Guest) to access them without Authentication (Login) at all ? i.e: Announcement Board Space.

4.) How to create a new GROUP ? I noticed there is one default Group , which is "EveryOne". Is there any way to create a new group from the GUI / via XML configuration ?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

1) See this thread: http://www.alfresco.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=537&highlight=coordinator

2) Each user you created will have full permissions within any space they created. The roles become apparent when you invite users into a Space with a specific role. E.g. use the Manage Space Users dialog to invite user A with role R into a space created by user B, then user A will only have the appropriate role within that space. You should also see that non Admin users cannot create content etc. in the Company Home space unless they are invited into it with another role.

3) We are added non-Alfresco user Guest access for the next release.

4) Groups are currently part of the Enterprise edition of Alfresco. The EVERYONE group is a special pseudo group and isn't really a Group in the traditional sense (i.e. you cannot add/remove users or other groups to it)

Hope this helps,

Kevin

Kevin,

thanks for the information.

2 more questions :
1. Is there any matrix comparison features doc (Open Source vs Enterprise version) that I can refer to ?

2. I tried to create a simple workflow rule for Draft & Pending Approval Home space.
However, it seems like whoever that has a Contributor/Coordinator Rule can request approval/ approve / reject it. Is this statement correct  ? (Apologize because I haven't tried other workflow type except "A Simple Workflow"). Assuming this feature is not built in yet, then :
I will think of a feature that once a user A submit "Request Approval", he will be able to select which user that can approve his submission doc.
Which means, creation of a new workflow, should provide more input parameter to be set.

1. This may be what you need: http://www.alfrescosoftware.com/products/comparison/

2. You are correct, this would be a useful feature! We intend to significantly advance the workflow features in a future release (including BPEL workflow i imagine) so i will pass on your suggestion.

Thanks,

Kevin
