ContentItem - Check-in/Check-out Cumbersome Process

The current ContentItem Check-in/Check-out process is really Cumbersome (too many clicks)

1. Is there any way to make this simple with very few clicks
2. Are there any 3rd party tool (OPEN Source preferably) that we can use on top of alfresco, that will reduce this number of clicks
3. Is there any windows-explorer like interface that we can use to reduce this number of clicks (for example SVN Client that works with SubVersion, sits on top of windows-explorer)

These are some of our endusers requirement that is driving us in product decision making. Any help please?

Perhaps if you post more details of how you are doing the check in and check out, and what document types you are trying to use
