Connecting to alfresco web-app from another web-app

hi,
i'm trying to connect to alfresco from my web-app, which is in another tomcat-apache node.
it is possible to do this in an easy to implement and well documented manner?

i think is an important integration issue, but i didn't found any exaustive solution around the web, forums, documentations and so on…
someone of alfresco staff said this is an improvement of 1.3 version. is it true? is this already in the beta version? and, if so, ther is a bit of documentation about? where?

may be i'm not so able to find-out this solution…. anyway…. if someone could help me it would be very nice

i forgot to specify this:
my requirement is to "auto-login",
sending to a customized login page (or the default updated alfresco/login.jsp, doesn't matter) the 2 login properties as get/post parameters (prefereably get) in the http request.

in any case i think a few word from someone of alfresco team (or some other guru) would be opportune in a forum like this…. or i mistaked forum? did i?

The only option for remote access we have at the moment is the web services API.

at this point the problem is of mine, i think, because i already readed the link u provided to me, but… i don't know why… it doesn't seem to me so clear…

2 possibility:
- i have not the minimum level of comprehension required for this kind of developping activity (quite possible)
- effectively, some usefull info is not provided in wikipedia (ie a package diagram or an api javadoc of ALL the api involved in the project… & so on… maybe also an exemple of web service client-server implemantation would be very usefull…)

as "example" i mean (why not?) some kind of .java/.jsp/.jsf self-consistant & ready to work….
