Configuring log rotation on Windows?

Our sysadmin noticed that the Alfresco.log file was getting out of control and mentioned it to me.  Does not appear to have rotated ever, so I looked into adding logrotation support.  It appears that tomcat/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/log4j.properties is the controlling file.  Interestingly enough, it looks like it should be rotating alfresco.log.

I then looked at our "dev" Alfresco server, it has the same configuration and it *does* rotate logs.  What gives?  Why won't my production one rotate logs, but my dev server will?  Both are Windows 2012R2 servers with Alfresco 5.0a.

Where can I look to try to diagnose the configuration problem/failure?  Any common issues I should check first?

I suspect you have an additional log4j.properties file somwehere which is accounting for the difference.

What you should do is add a log4j.properties file on the extension class path so you know that one will take precedence.

Also look at the log4j documentation.
