Hello,

I'm wondering about the best way to implement compound documents to Alfresco. I didn't find that possibility out-of-the-box…

regards,

What do you mean by "compound" documents?   What are you trying to do?

Well, basically it's a document, made of other documents. Those documents are like modules, that you bring them in order in compound document.
I have to make a tree structure of modules in that compound document and then link documents into each module. So it's like a table of contents which you populate with documents.

Basically that could be implemented using a simple folder structure. Problem is, that folders cannot be versioned (afaik).

thanks for your reply.

I am wondering about the capabilities of Alfresco to be able to manage such compound documents.

Did you have an answer or did you find a way to implement it?

Thanks for reply.

Sounds like an interesting problem. I'm sure it can be done. Can you describe your problem in more detail? What services would you use with compound documents? E.g. generate renditions, etc?

This thread reminds of me an Alfresco partner announcement I read a while back:

http://www.componize.com/concept/home.html

I haven't used the solution, but I do know that it builds on the OASIS Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) specification:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_Information_Typing_Architecture
http://docs.oasis-open.org/dita/v1.1/CS01/archspec/archspec.html

in which documents are viewed as collections of XML-based documents that are rendered using XSL-type rendition engines.
