Clarification on attribution requirement

Does attribution apply if you have a custom program that communicates with alfresco over JSR-170? (i.e. the gui is not derived from Alfresco's)

What if you have a number of such programs (custom, not derived from Alfresco) that need to communicate with a common content repository over a web service. Do they all fall under the attribution requirement?

Great question, strobhen, and one that we're actively investigating.  We want to make sure we apply attribution in a way that is consistent with common sense and the OSI (and are currently working with the OSI to best determine how to implement attribution in both a UI environment and in the sorts of instances that you describe).

Please feel free to contact me directly for updates as we work toward a solution with the OSI.  My email is first.last@alfresco.com.

One interesting example is Zimbra - they separated backend and web client, and provide it under different licenses. (http://www.zimbra.com/license/collaboration_suite_collective_license_1.0.html)

Backend is MPLed, and frontend has similar attribution (http://www.zimbra.com/license/zimbra_public_license_1.2.html)

They also clarify, that this attribution applies in case you are redistributing the product.

Just seen this thread. Yes, please, clearing this mess would be very desireable, and, as much as I can see how attribution is probably important to your busines.s model, OSI approved license for Alfresco is something I would very very much like to see.

Hope to hear nice news soon Smiley Happy
