Hi,
      I am using Alfresco 3.2 and I am trying to activate CISF. I  am not able to mount a virtual network drive for my CIFS server. It is giving following error message:

"you were not connected because of a duplicate name exists on the network"

I am using following configuration files:

file-servers.xml

<alfresco-config area="file-servers">

Hi I am experiencing the same problem, I have not had the chance yet to test "disabling" Windows server NETBT (NetBIOS), by creating the following registry key , here is the extract from the installation manual, if you do get a chance to try it please let me know if it worked for you :

To run the native SMB over TCP/IP protocol under Windows, you need to disable Windows from
using the port by editing, or creating, the following registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters]
"SMBDeviceEnabled"=dword:00000000

Hi OK with windows NETBT disabled and the following config files in Alfresco\tomcat\shared\classes\alfresco\extension\subsystems\fileServers\default\default\
Please note this config uses "Alfresco" Authentication and FTP server is disabled, you must enter "yourdomain" and "your alfresco CIFS server" in below changes.properties config file.
You must also delete or rename the config files in \Alfresco\tomcat\webapps\alfresco\WEB-INF\classes\alfresco\subsystems\fileServers\default\

Hope it helps!
Oh and if you have large scale copies or even backups to do, use XCOPY it works without the connection being dropped.
I tested this locally on the server, and I managaed to copy more than 20GB no problem to Alfresco CIFS server.

I couldnt get following path Alfresco\tomcat\shared\classes\alfresco\extension\subsystems\fileServers\default\default\ . My server is Alfresco3.2r, is that the problem?

It is not getting it even after changing the registry. It is working only on my system and from other systems it is prompting same error message.

"you were not connected because of a duplicate name exists on the network"

The file that I used for my installation is (Alfresco-Community-3.2r2-Full-WIN-Setup.exe)
So it is strange that your config files are not in the same place if you installation is the same?

The only other setting I can see in your config that might help is to modify :
<protocolOrder>TCPIP,NetBIOS</protocolOrder>
try moving the TCPIP behind NetBIOS if that doesn't work try removing TCPIP it's worth a try.
Also ensure you restarted the PC /Server after you changed the registry, to disable the NETBT.

It is Working now, Thanks alot Edasob. I think one of the two things worked – Commenting "<tcpipSMB ipv6="${cifs.ipv6}" platforms="linux,solaris,macosx"/>" or changing windows registry. Once again thank you.

It is probaly both that affects the CIFS server to force the use of Win32Netbios - which for me is much faster than Java NetBIOS
