CIFS and FTP settings in 1.4 Enterprise

Hi,

The extension files seem to have changed in Alfresco 1.4 Enterprise. Wasn't the extension folder made to be able to keep your modifications after an upgrade? Now I have to go over every single file again to match it with the previous configuration settings (in 1.3.2) and change the settings where needed, not as I had expected.

As a result there are some parameters I'm missing in the new installation. The CIFS and FTP settings for example. In 1.3.2 both items could be changed in the file-servers-custom.xml extended file, in 1.4 I can't find these any more. How can I change these settings in 1.4, should I add the relevant parts?

Thanks!

Hi Simon

Usually, for upgrades people take the WAR bundle and just update the WAR in an existing install.  Then just do some sanity checking on any new items in the new extension files to see if there are any new properties that might be useful.

Where possible, we will indicate if core configuration changes mean that olf extension files need updating.

I believe just copying your 1.3 file-servers-custom.xml to 1.4 will work, but you won't get to see any of the new desktop actions - just look at the 1.4 config for examples.

Best regards
Paul.

Paul,

Thanks for the answer. I prefer to install the full package instead of the WAR, I want to make sure I stay as close to the default Alfresco setup as possible and upgrading the whole thing makes me feel safer if you guys happen to upgrade to a new version of Tomcat for example. Don't know if this is really needed…

This would be very welcome and could help to make it clear what has changed.

Why would I upgrade to 1.4.0 to miss the new features by using old configuration files?  I copied all my old configuration files from 1.3.2 to 1.4.0 but Alfresco didn't even start so I decided to go over the configuration files manually. This probably wasn't the right thing to do. I added the CIFS and FTP segments from my old configuration files and this works.

I'm only surprised to see that the whole CIFS and FPT configuration blocks are gone, how can someone enable these settings now (e.g. in a new installation)?
