I need to be able to change the Major Version of an item in alfresco, so make version 1.7 version 2.0. I need to do this with the web services. If I update the VersionLabel meta-data, the change history breaks.
I was also looking at this issue. I wasn't able to come up with a solution. At least not in the amount of time I was willing to devote to it. Maybe we can expect this functionality in a future version?
