Can I mix database content with documents in web display?

Hello - I'm afraid I'm very new to this, so the question may not make sense.
I'm at very early stages of project analysis, but I'm looking for some way to display lists to users, in a web environment, showing a mixture of document metadata, and data which is already held in our existing applications (in Oracle databases). Is there some way of doing this? I guess what I would want would be some kind of means to execute predefined SQL queries against an Oracle database and display the result in a list alongside Alfresco document metadata.
Is this kind of thing even conceivable? And if so, are there any documents which could give an overview of how to do it?
Many thanks

Normally people build a web application and then pull the various bits of data from the different systems before displaying what's needed.

Depending on the details of your requirements you may find some sort of portal or data integration framework helps.

From an alfresco perspective, Alfresco Share may be able to help, with its template based approach to building web pages.  And the Alfresco repository is very suited to feeding data or snippets of web pages into somthing that "mashes" them together, be it share, quick start or some other third party web application.
