Bug in Category feature in Alfresco 1.4.0?

Hi

I came a cross with the following "feature" with my fresh installation of Alfresco 1.4.0:

1. Select space details.
2. Expand Category
3. click Allow Categorization

4. run action
5. select Action: Link item to category
6. click: Set Values and Add
7. select a category (does not matter which)
8. click ok
9. click Finish

will result to an error (+ same error is displayed everytime space details are viewed)

However if I select "change category" instead of running an action on step 4, everything works fine.

Regards,
Said

PS. Here is a clip from tomcat's output:

Yes, you have indeed found a "feature" in 1.4.

I have raised this in JIRA: http://issues.alfresco.com/browse/AWC-1036

Thanks for reporting this.

FYI, i have the same issue with a slightly other case of use.
I define a folder tree, with in each folder a rule applying a category to the content imported in the space.
Each folder has a different category.

I've tried it with a true fresh install under linux and using HSQL.

I was wondering : is it only an interface bug, or do you recommend not to use automatic category assignation by rules or actions before you have investigated much further ?

I've checked one thing : after having imported a content in the folder, the category is automatically assigned to it, so i expect the feature to be limited to the interface.

Laurent.

It should be fine to do automatic category assignment, as it sounds like you have verified, so yes, it's more than likely an interface bug.
