Botched the Invitation Acceptance and Can't Log in

I was invited to join an Alfresco site and I accepted it. I was presented with a login screen and I entered what I thought was my userid and password but then received the message "Your authentication details have not been recognized or Alfresco may not be available at this time."
I have tried to re-accept and also reject the invitation but Alfresco will not allow those actions because it views me as already accepting the invitation.
All attempts at using what I reasonably think could be my userid and password have failed and I get the same "Your authentication details have not been…." message.

The e-mail invitation can only be used one time so you will have to contact the Site Manager, the person who sent the e-mail invitation, and have them check to see if you really are a member in the Members section of the Site. If you are not listed in the People section of the Members page the Site Manager will need check to see if you are listed in the Pending Invites of the Members page. If you are listed in the Pending Invites your invitation will need to cancelled and a new invitation sent.
