is there a desent solution for an automated backup of alfresco (the database and contentstore) without shut down everything.. (stop tomcat, copy the dir.root, dumping the database) and that every day?

isnt there no backup and recovery strategy where i dont have stop tomcat and do a procedure that is so '90 style?

i read the backup strategy, but srly that is not acceptable in a productive enviroment.

Hi enkidu
I have Alfresco CE running, I uses rsync to take backup.
I have written a script for the same which gets executes daily by 12.am, The steps in the script are
(a) Shutdown the service
(b) backup up DB, sco to the backup location
© rsync the alfresco installation dir to the backup server
(d) start the service
I have used simple bash script to do it.

My environment in LINUX I have used bash script and crontab to do the backup. I am not familiar how I could do it in MS enviornment
In your MS$ environment, it(my script)  wont work.

Hi bisana.
What's your Alfresco version?
Can you share your script for backup?
Thanks in advance.

My backup is scheduled to happen at 12 mid night, for me there are no users at that time.
My method has been tested in real live problem and I feel very comfortable with it

We backup Alfresco without shutting down 6 days a week using a hot backup (We do a cold backup once a week which does involve stopping Alfresco), see the procedures and order here:

http://docs.alfresco.com/4.1/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.alfresco.enterprise.doc%2Ftasks%2Fbackup-hot.htm...

NOTE: It is critical the order in which you do the backup. i.e indexes, followed by database, followed by repository.
