I downloaded the helios java EE package and installed it to Ubuntu. It's a fresh installation. When I try to install the designer, also a lot of dependencies conflicts to solve.I really have no idea. This sure really make me feel very frustrated to continue to explore Activiti….
….
At present,jBPM5 also has a lot such kind of unhappy scenarios…..we are really in a dilemma…….

Any suggestions about this?

Yes, you should download Eclipse Classic 3.6.1. That's the version of Eclipse we currently support.

Thank you very much,Tiese. But it is really not a good news…

Is there a form composer so that we can edit a form in a GUI editor?
And from the user guide,I know that activiti can only support JUEL script form at present, not FreeMarker.
And where to set the global variables of a process? In the designer? At least jBPM5 can do all of these in the GUI  BPMN eidtor. But I would still prefer Activiti because I have some ECM experiences of FileNet P8 and IBM CM,while Afresco is a good open source ECM solution. So I would like to continue to build some such skills.

Hi,

Why is this not good news, I don't understand.
We currently don't have a form composer yet, but it's very easy to create forms with Activiti.
Why do you want to set global variables? For which use case?

Best regards,

Oh…1)The designer can only be installed to helios classic 3.6.1 is really not a good news..As you see,I downloaded Helios Java EE 3.6.2 with a fresh installation of Activiti Designer,it still can not be installed correctly.
2)For the global variables,I have some experiences of FileNet BPM and tried jBPM5,you can set the variables that can be used by all the work items in the process property. So it can be used by all the nodes.
3)Trademak,you should have rich experiences in Activiti,I would like to get some advices from you, what tools(Activiti) can be used to compose a form?

Actually I would prefer Activiti to jBPM5,because I think it can be integrated more tightly to Alfresco.I really want Activiti can be eassier to use and have more tools to support it.

Thank you very much.

Hi,

We have to deal with a problem in Eclipse 3.6.2 with multipage editors and property sheets which currently prevents us from supporting that version of Eclipse.

About the global process variables. In Activiti this works a bit differently. You can place process variables (which are global by default) in the process context at any time during process execution. For example you can define a start form with two input fields on a start event which will start a new process instance with two global process variables. Then you can add a new process variable in the next step of the process execution and so on. So there's no real need to define global process variables, you just use them.

To compose a form I would use a simple XML editor (for example the XML editor in Eclipse).
You only have to deal with a few html tags and your done.
In one of the next releases it will become even easier, because you can define form properties with simple name/value pairs and the form will be generated for you at runtime.

You are right to prefer Activiti, because it'll be the workflow engine of Alfresco in the next release.

Best regards,

pero
