I tried for a few days to install Alfresco-Labs-3Stable on Ubuntu 8.10 without success; I've tried to change a lot of configurations, but nothing.
Fresh install Ubuntu 8.10 - Follow step by step the guide on http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Installing_Alfresco_Lab_3_Stable_on_Ubuntu_8.10 but when I ask on my browser http://localhost:8080/share or http://localhost:8080/alfresco always I receive:

HTTP Status 404 - /share
type Status report
message /share
description The requested resource (/share) is not available.
Apache Tomcat/6.0.18

I'm very interested to Alfresco, but I don't know how to proceed; if someone can help me I can publish logs, etc.

Thanks in advance

I too have been having the same problem and following the same  advice as above, and any other I could find on the web.   I have the problem whether I am installing the entire package on /opt/Alfresco, or just using the war package under Tomcat.   I've only allowed one version of tomcat to run at a time, depending on what I am installing.

Basically when I start the program i can go to my browser and get the share (http://localhost:8080/share) login window, but it refuses to accept any passwords.  If I try to go to alfresco (http://localhost:8080/alfresco) I get the statement that the resource is not available.

I've spent all day on this have gotten no where.   The most common error statement from catalina.out under tomcat is:

INFO: Deploying web application archive alfresco.war

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

"ObjID already in use" has been covered in these forums before - it's likely a local firewall blocking a port.
