Alfresco + Image Acquisition + OCR

Hi all,
I'm looking for integrating alfresco with an acquisition image system (Kofax and ecopy for example, but they are not free) and with OCR. I'm looking for documentation and possibilities..but I didn't find anything that is opensource  Does a completely open source solution exist? Is there an integration already available or must I do all the work?
I'd appreciate any starting point idea! I'm getting confused …especially because I'd need a no cost solution both for CMS and for acquisition engine/software.

We have implemented an OCR server integrated with Alfresco, which can be used as transformer or via Javascript and Java. It runs on  a separate OCR server and supports Abbyy and Google OCR. for more informaiton see here - https://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=44739
