Good to Know about new release Richard

<b>My Initial thoughts on Release notes.</b>

Removal of jBPM which was superseded by Activiti. Smiley Sad I did see that coming but not expected this fast.

<b>Exciting Features</b>

Smart Folders (Need to fix link in wiki page)
Alfresco Office Services as an optional proprietary module

Also, It's good to see that Alfresco is now strongly considering suggestions from users and developers.

<b>Missing Items:</b>
There were few things which we had lost when you have removed alfresco explorer. eg. workflow console. Are they back in this version?

Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for the hint about the out-of-date link.

The workflow consoles were restored to Community Edition in 5.0.d (<a href="https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-21133">ALF-21133</a>)

There are still some features of Explorer that we have not yet brought into Share, and at this point it is likely that we never will. <a href="https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/SHA-1359?jql=labels%20%3D%20Explorer_Functional_Parity%20and...">This query might require a login</a>.

Thank you for the update Richard.

Alfresco 5.1 seems to be really cool.

I am really excited about the following features.
1. Alfresco share having its own life cycle. This will surely be really effective. I can see it making migration tasks much easier.
2. JAR extension modules are surely going to make it very easy to add new customization/modifications to alfresco for developers.
3. Easy content modeling helps business users to dynamically add the content model without any hassle and also saves a lot of time.
4. User defined start page is surely going to make the user experience awesome.
5. I can see that newly introduced Take Ownership action will be of great help while working on some real-time content related production issues.
6. Importing ACP files to Alfresco is a much needed functionality and I am glad we have it available in Alfresco 5.1.
7. Smart folders and Alfresco Office Services adds a great value to the overall functionalities provided by Alfresco product.

Having Activiti superseding JBPM, I am bit curious to know if we have some insights/documentation about how to incorporate workflow migrations specifically, from older versions(having in flight workflows created using JBPM) to 5.1. Having such information would be a great help.

At the end, I would like to conclude just saying - Great Work Team & Thank you for all the support… It's always great to be a part of Alfresco Community.

Thank you for the kind wishes. We hope the new features meet your expectations.

I'm not familiar with a good guide for moving from jBPM to Activiti. We have a specific document for moving from Lucene to Solr, but I am not aware of something similar for the workflow migration. I'll put in a request, but I don't know if it will be possible to put that together.

If anyone knows of good advice for upgrading from jBPM to Activiti, please list it in the workflow subforum so we can all benefit.

Thanks Richard!

I've a question regarding Alfresco SDK 2.2.0, when do you think will be released a General Access for the SDK Environment?
I hope very soon! We have a new release of Alfresco Platform and Alfresco Share and this sounds good, but we can't interact with them!

Thanks in advance

The upgraded SDK was released last week. Sorry about the delay.

https://www.alfresco.com/blogs/developer/2016/03/04/introducing-alfresco-sdk-2-2/

Our goal is to improve the SDK so that it doesn't need to be upgraded with every release. But we are also working to make sure we can have more timely releases in the future.

And sorry about my delay in responding to all the comments in this thread. I didn't mean to let it go so long.

I agree with Marco. I'm excited about all of the new features in the release but I was disappointed when I realized the SDK that is compatible with the release hadn't been released yet. Will the SDK always lag behind the Community Edition GA release or is this a one-time thing?

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Martin Bergljung had replied to my post in the Development environment section, to inform me that the new Alfresco SDK version was relased (https://www.alfresco.com/blogs/developer/2016/03/04/introducing-alfresco-sdk-2-2/)!
I hope this will be useful to you!

Marco
