I'm wondering if there is a config somewhere that I can tell OpenOffice NOT to process previews for certain type of files– for my instance it would be .msi files. I noticed whenever I upload a NON .doc/.docx file and OpenOffice fails to render the file it crashes the OpenOffice connection. Restarting Alfresco is the only way to regain the file rendering/preview functionality.
