Can I add version notes (displaying in version history) on adding and updating files?

Not currently, no.

You can only add version notes when you are doing a checkin action.

How come the version notes never display?  I am using 2.0 Community and I add my version notes upon checking-in a document and when I return to the history table under notes, it is always blank?

Sorted.

The version notes are not captured on "Minor Change".  When you uncheck the "Minor Changes" it changes the version from 1.1,1.2,1.3… to 2.0.  When you do this the version notes are captured and displayed.

Perhaps somebody from the Alfresco-Team can explain some experiences with the possibility of applying version notes also on minor changes?

I haven't tried it. But sounds like a bug…
