Adding meta data results in Date Modified to be changed

Hi,
Our users are unhappy that the Date Modified for the file gets changed when they add categories, aspects, or even correct a typo in a property field. They seem dependent upon knowing that the content has not been changed since 1998 or whenever. 

Is is possible to detect a content change differently from a meta data change? Are there any plans to enable separate modified dates so the content modified date can reflect the actual age of the content?

Any suggestions on how we can keep our users happy on this topic would be appreciated.
