Activiti Designer release planning

Hi all,

Normally with the release of a new version of the Activiti framework, we would also release new version of the Activiti Designer.
However, we want to make some changes to current version that takes more time.
Let me explain what we want to change.

1. We want to use only 1 model for storing the process model. So instead of having a .activiti file and a .bpmn20.xml file we only want to have one .bpmn20.xml file. This is a far better foundation and reduces the chance for conflicts between the two files.
2. Better support for events and sub processes. We had to take some shortcuts to support events and 1 level of embedded sub processes. We want to clean this up and provide full support for events and multiple levels of sub processes.
3. Support annotations
4. Fix outstanding bugs
5. Upgrade to Graphiti 0.9.0 (this means we won't support Eclipse Helios anymore).

If you want to add something to this list of features, now is the time!
Let us know if you have any questions / comments and additions.

Best regards,

Hi Tijs,

I'm happy to hear that we will receive an Update of Activiti Designer, witch supports the new Activiti 5.9 features :-). Any ETA?

One thing that I'm missing, but which takes probably quite a lot of effort to implement would be the possibility to add lanes.
That would offer the possibility to associate assignees/candidate users+groups etc. with the lane and then just drop user tasks to that lane.
The tasks on the lane would simply take the assignees/candidate users+groups etc. from the lane. No need to make additional assignments.
Saves time, if you need to adjust those assignments for several tasks later on.

Thanks,
Markus

I agree with naggy.
If you can enable the use of lanes it would be great. But as far as I know (as its said in the forum) it isn't planed yet to implement this feature.
Am I right?

Hi,

We will be working hard on the new features in the coming weeks.
But I can't give a release planning yet. When I can provide an estimate I'll update this post.
Lane support was not planned, but if a lot of users would like to have this functionality it's certainly something I want to take a look at.

Is there JIRA issue where we could gather votes for pool/lane support?

Hi,

We're making good progress with the 1 model file implementation of the Designer and are ready to work on bug fixes and new features.
Lanes and pools could be one, but let us know if you think of other functionality.
Feel free to raise JIRA issues for the Activiti Designer component.

Wow, I've just checked out the latest SVN release with the 1-file model, this is really a big improvement! Thanks 🙂

Cool, can't wait until it's ready 🙂

One thing that I'd like to suggest:
It would be great to have a better Groovy editor as a replacement for the tiny little one in the properties tab…
Maybe it's possible to embed something that provides syntax highlighting…

Thanks,
Markus

Hi Markus,

Do you have any thoughts about what specific kind of functionality you would like there?
Maybe we can integrate an existing Groovy editor plugin.
