Access/Delete permissions?

I am sorry to keep bugging you with dumb questions.

Got everything up and running due to your really nice installation documentation.

Biggest questions right now:

1. Is there any way to restrict who can look at certain spaces and has permissions to delete content?

2. Where can I see the check in comment that a user specified when checking in a document?

3. I am running the pilot on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and it crashes about once an hour without leaving any hints in the log. Does anybody know anything about that? Unfortunately, I'm not a sysadmin with the skills to go with it….

Hi,

You will need the permissions functionality to restrict who can look at certain spaces and who can delete. After listening to the community we have decided to move the permissions functionality to the open source version. We have a 1.1 release hopefully going out later today which includes permissions.

Another new feature of the 1.1 release is the ability to view the checkin comments in the version history in the document details page.

If you can't wait for the release there's always the nightly build!

Is it Windows that's crashing or the app server?

Thanks for the quick reply, Gavin! That's wonderful news about the permissions and check-in comment functionality! Thanks so much!

Sorry about the inadequate description of my problem with the crashes–you are psychic after all, aren't you? javascript:emoticon('Smiley Surprisedops:')

This is what's happening…
I start the session with alf_start.bat on the Windows 2003 server which opens the command line window.

Then I just discomment from my session to the server to keep the app server (command line window) running, which it does. Sometimes later, usually within about an hour, I can't get to the URL anymore (get connection was refused message). When I log into the server, the command line window has closed. I have been checking the log files in \Alfresco\tomcat\logs but there is no hint to what happens and why.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday searching on the web if Tomcat has a known problem with the Windows 2003 Server but couldn't find anything that looked related. I have Alfresco running on a Windows XP Pro laptop as well and it never crashed there.

Today, I'll try to install it on yet another server and see how it works out there. Maybe it's just that specific machine or what's running on it (.NET application and .NET development environment).

Again, thank you so very much for your help. I am acutely aware that my knowledge is inadequate to contribute much to the community, but please let me know if there is anything I can do to help this immensely promising product.

Never mind! Our network sysadmin neglected to remember that he had set the server to time out disconnected sessions!  :x . The "crashes" were simply session timeouts. I wish he hadn't let me spin my wheels over the weekend.

However that does bring up another question (sorry): Is it possible to run the Tomcat as a webservice? I saw a file "service.bat" in the D:\Alfresco\tomcat\bin directory. Being a very small private company with limited resources (especially with the pricy MS licenses) folks are not too happy that I need to permanently block a license to run Alfresco.

Thanks again and sorry for being such a pest. I promise, I'll come up to speed quickly.

Again, never mind! I found a kind soul within the company that actually knows Tomcat and Java really well. He got the webservices stuff going, so I am a happy camper.

I have tried to download the version 1.1 from sourceforge.net all day. There seems to be an issue. I can't get any of the files from any mirror.

Are you guys aware of that?

SourceForge was performing some "site updates" yestarday so it may take a while for the files to appear. I would expect it to take at least 24 hours for the mirrors to update.

Thanks,
