Hello,
I just my first install of Alfresco. It's the 3.2 CE on a Windows 2003 server. Installation went thru without any hitches, have been playing with it quite and a bit. very nice!
I've noticed however that Alfresco does not seem to look inside the test (Word) documents I have imported. It does not extract the meta data I add to the document, and search does not show the content either.
I saw another post here about a change to a startup file for OO, but I cheched and the soffice.bin process is running.
What else can I check?
Bas

You'd like to verify, that there is a usable connection between Alfresco and OpenOffice.
To do so, please add this line to log4j.properties
# OpenOfficeConnection
log4j.logger.net.sf.jooreports.openoffice.connection=info
At your next Alfresco startup, there will be a message about the validity of the connection when the process nears its end.
That will inform you, if the connection was (re)established, or an inital conecction could not be set up.
To do so, please add this line to log4j.properties

Hi Sax,
I'll try that. I'm an Alfresco beginner, what file to check for output 😉

Hi Bas,
this would be alfresco.log in your Alfresco folder or Alfresco/tomcat/logs/catalina.out, the latter being more verbose.

Hmmm,
It says that it started OK.. I then realized I had been checking in docx files up to now. I tested with a Office 2003 DOC and the metadata I put in still does not get read, but it does seem to find the contents now.
I'm using Start -> Prepare -> Properties to add things like Title etc. That should be visible to Alfresco correct? It does not show in the Metadata Title field.
Q1) Are there issues with Docx?
Q2) Is that the correct way to add metadata using Word
tx!

Docx was a longer standing problem, yes. http://issues.alfresco.com should inform you, if that was resolved (with a search for docx).
Your custom metadata fields have to be mapped to Alfresco fields.

There seems to be an issue alongside this option
