One thing I told my staff in 2017-2019, and people I mentored prior to that:

Once you leave Sys Admin training, and once you've started getting thrown into stuff, try to go out to (then) Community and solve someone's question at least once per day.

It forces you to research and try to figure out the solution; it helps others even if you don't get exactly the right answer, and most importantly: it keeps what you learned fresh in your mind so you don't lose it during down or wait periods.

Once you're more comfortable with it, try to post problem/solution as much as you can, because it helps people who come searching...possibly even yourself years later.

The only downside, is that if you go to a different company, Hyland won't let you keep "your" account...so your history gets sprawled across multiple accounts over years.  That's never been fixed, which is unfortunate.  Because many of the older posts still get kudos when someone is helped by them, and those you won't get any credit for anymore.

Using our Connect forums as part of your onboarding process is a great idea @MVannLeicester !

When our customers leave their company to work for another one of our accounts, they can notify us by creating a Hyland ID Support Case.  We will then associate their same Hyland ID with their new account and business email address.  In this way, all their forum and blog activity in Connect will be retained for their Username.

Cheers!
Alan

@Alan_Boucher  "We will then associate their same Hyland ID with their new account and business email address.  In this way, all their forum and blog activity in Connect will be retained for their Username."

Unless Connect is different than Community, this isn't the case.

My history spans literally over 20+ years.  It has never linked, because the Hyland ID IS the business email address, which has changed.  There are IDs from before Okta was implemented, IDs from after it was implemented, etc.  It has never linked together, because of the requirement that the ID be an email address vs. a straight username.

Yes, you are correct @MVannLeicester.  Prior to our OKTA integration, members' IDs changed when going from company to another one of our customers.  But now, member's ID and Username in Connect stay the same if we change their account and business email address in OKTA.

@Alan_Boucher sounds good...but we might be talking about two different IDs.

I'm referring to this:

As far back as I recall, that's always the email address.  Which is always the "current" company email.
Are you saying that despite that email changing, that it's being linked to a pre-existing, permanent "entity ID" that should retain post history?

Because if so that's a very good thing...though unfortunate it can't go back to orphaned accounts from the past and re-ID them to rebuild the complete history.

Yes @MVannLeicester, there is an internal OKTA ID that retains post history.

@Alan_Boucher Good to hear.  Thanks.

Now we just need a tool to be able to go and relink our past stuff (pre-Okta) to that ID so it's full history, and one of my two last remaining complaints will have been resolved.
