Hello,

I’d like to ask for assistance with solving our problem with Alfresco SOLR.

We’re running Alfresco Community distribution with Alfresco SOLR on Windows Server 2022 with using shared secret between Alfresco and SOLR.

Our versions used are:

  • alfresco-content-services-community-distribution - 25.2.0
  • alfresco-search-services - 2.0.16
  • OpenJDK 21 - OpenJDK21U-jdk_windows_hotspot_21.0.8_9

In log there are tree requests to localhost:8983/solr/admin/info/system?wt=json, each resulting  in a 403 null HTTP/1.1. After the thrird attempt SOLR restarts itself.

I attached a part of that log with our configuration.

Thanks for your help,

Tomas

Hi,

I recall a problem when Solr is installed on Windows as a Service. That call should be a sort of auto-health check that Solr does against itself. How have you installed it as a Service?

I also remember that a workaround was to use certificates, instead of secret... or using Linux-based server

Maybe also try the -f parameter when starting Solr.cmd

Windows service has been created via NSSM with "c:\Program Files\nssm\win64\nssm" install alfresco-solr command and with following properties:

  • Path: E:/alfresco-search-services/solr/bin/solr.cmd
  • Startup directory:E:/alfresco-search-services/solr/bin
  • Arguments: start -f

Also can you check if solr search service 2.0.16 supported with alfresco-25.x ?  I heard it only supports elastic search, if I am not wrong.

I think it is not a problem between alfresco and alfresco search services. But I´ll look for compatibility list as you said and check it out.

I can confirm that Alfresco 25.x supports Search Services 2.x.

I made an update:

  • In security.json i replaced the content with empty brackets ({}) and the HTTP 403 status dissapeared. Since then, auto-health check has been returning HTTP 200 status. In my opinion, this is not proper solution. However, SOLR was still restarting.
  • After I have reacreated windows service as described in article, SOLR started working propertly.
