ContentReader is null

If I use FolderFileService Java API to get a content reader on a node it returns null. The node has content because I can access the content via the node browser. There is no exception just returns null. 

I am updating the node properties before this and the node properties update without a problem.

Which version of Alfresco Repository ? Can you post screenshots of the node details in the node browser ? 

I wonder if for some reason you reaching this part of the code (exact lines may vary depending on your exact version):
