In 2012, Alfresco continued to deliver and enrich the same Enterprise grade software that our 1000s of paying and Community users and partners are familiar with. However, new opportunities and challenges for the Enterprise mean we are in the process of extending our reach and range of products, namely Cloud and Mobile.

The features/products presented here are what we have released so far this year under the following three pillars of activity built on the same foundation.

• Enterprise and Community - continued evolution of our core on-premise product that companies and organizations rely on for business critical content
  
• Cloud - the same Alfresco experience available in a public cloud, allowing teams to work elastically outside the corporate firewall
  
• Mobile - focusing on the new tablet device workplace that operates with the Private Enterprise and Cloud
  
• Platform and Integrations - providing a robust and reliable API, and customization framework for Alfresco and its customers and ecosystem to build on.

Enterprise 4.1

Enterprise 4.1 enables Cloud sync functionality.

Cloud Sync

Push and automatically synchronize content between on-premise Alfresco repositories and Alfresco in the Cloud. Engage and collaborate on content with 3rd parties using Alfresco in the Cloud and automatically keep the Private Enterprise in sync with any changes. 
Capabilities include:

• Individual and multiple files, folders, and folder hierarchies can be synchronized between on-premise and cloud Alfresco servers as well as on-premise to on-premise servers
  
• Synchronized payload includes content and common metadata
  
• All changes pushed and pulled automaticially; no need for you to manually initiate synchronization
  
• All information is exchanged over a secure HTTPS connection
  
• Firewall-friendly - no requirement to open on-premise firewall; all actions are initated by the on-premise system 
  
• Controls over what can be synchronized to ensure sensitive content remains on-premise
  
• Potential conflicts due to simultaneous edits are detected and clearly marked so you can take the appropriate corrective action

Alfresco in the Cloud

S3 Encrypted Content (Upgrade Feature)

• Content is securely encrypted at rest when stored in the Cloud using 256bit AES Encryption. This ensures any physical security breach to our data center will not compromise your content.
  

WebDAV (Upgrade Feature)

• You can mount Alfresco as a network drive on your desktop
  
• Can be used to provide DropBox-like synchronization on the desktop using 3rd party clients such as GoodSync with folders in Alfresco
  
• Allows you to open, edit, and save content from popular productivity apps directly into Alfresco from their desktop, phone, or tablet device  
  

Public File Sharing Links

• Share files in your Alfresco Document Library using a Public URL that can be shared easily via email, FaceBook, Twitter, or Google+ (and other services). Anyone who accesses the document can view it online without having to log into Alfresco.
  
• Can be used for sharing presentations and documents in your website
  

Folder Rules

With Folder Rules you can set up and manage automatic rules on folders in Alfresco. For example, you can configure a rule to automatically generate a PDF copy of a document in a different folder whenever you upload a new document, saving you time creating PDF copies to send out to customers or partners.

Public API - Open to Developers

• Launch of Public API with ability for 3rd party developers to sign up and use API by themselves
  
• OAuth 2.0 support for API that enables you to list and revoke access to applications that have access to your data
  

Rich Media Gallery View

• Addition of new Gallery Thumbnail view on Alfresco's Document Library making it really easy to browse and manage rich media such as photos and video using Alfresco. This view will be the new default view for the Document Library with other views still available if required.
  
• Future enhancements will include multi-file drag & drop, progressive loading, and new UI to view and manage individual files in your Alfresco Document Library.
  

Granular Permissions

• User experience improvements to Document Library permissions in Alfresco
  
• Simpler site permission roles
  
• New user interface for setting permissions for specific users and groups
  
• Set restrictive permissions to ensure certain users and groups cannot see content
  

Google Docs Integration

• Create and edit documents in Alfresco's document library through the browser using Google Docs
  

Microsoft Office Integration

•   You can now just click 'Edit in MS Office'  to edit your Microsoft Office documents. This makes your whole journey simpler and smoother and is a true differentiation feature.

Platform

Artifact Repository (artifacts.alfresco.com)

• Repository that hosts Alfresco artifacts (both Community and Enterprise), for use by various Java build tools (including, but not limited to, Maven).
  

Public API

• A public (supported) remote API for developers to access and manipulate content in Alfresco, comprising CMIS 1.0 APIs plus a complementary RESTful API for Alfresco-specific object types (sites, people, activities, etc.).
  
• Separate public Java APIs out of the repository JAR and into a new, dedicated 'Alfresco public API' JAR
  

Developer Portal

• A single web property where developers can go to learn about Alfresco's developer platform and get started developing. It will subsume some parts of the www site, the wiki, and the Alfresco Documentation Online (docs.alfresco.com), consolidating them into a single, searchable portal.
  
• Initial release will include: 
  
  • Application key provisioning facilities for 3rd party applications that want to access Alfresco in the Cloud
    
  • Developer documentation (such as getting started guides and reference manuals for the Public API)
    

Integrations

We will make full use of our own platform to integrate with a wide range of 3rd party software systems and services, extending our ecosystem and showing best practice in action.

Jive Toolkit 1.0

• Provides an integration between Alfresco Enterprise 3.4 and Jive Engage v5.0, such that content can be stored into Alfresco via the Jive Engage UI, and can also be published to Jive from the Alfresco Share user interface
  
• Available for Private Enterprise only
  

Kofax Connector for Alfresco 4.0

• The existing Kofax Connector has been certified and released for Alfresco 4.0, and operates against Kofax v9 and v10
  
• Available for Private Enterprise only
  

Amazon S3 Connector

• Provides the ability for on-premise customers hosting Alfresco in Amazon EC2 to use S3 directly for content storage (rather than having to mount S3 using EBS)
