Announcing the Community Home Page

We’ve launch a new Community Home Page. This is really the starting point for what will eventually become your personalized view into all of our community properties. For now it aggregates feeds from places like the forums, Jira, blogs, and the wiki.

Alfresco Summit 2014

Save-the-date for Alfresco Summit! We’re starting off in the Americas first this year. San Francisco will be the host city September 23, 24, & 25. Then we’ll be in London two weeks later on October 7, 8, & 9. As has been the case in the past, the first day is optional--we’ll have training and a hack-a-thon on that day. The main conference starts the following day and lasts two days.

== Do you have a story to share at Alfresco Summit? The call-for-papers is now open and will run through the end of April. We’re accepting proposals for 5-minute lightning talks and 40-minute sessions in either the business track or the technical track. Read my blog to find out more about the technical track and Laurence Hart’s blog to hear more about the business track.

Useful Add-ons

There are now more than 300 add-ons in the Alfresco Add-ons directory. Andreas Steffan contributed the 300th add-on which provides human readable emails in Alfresco Share. It is exciting to see many useful recently contributed Add-ons. One of these add-ons is Ephesoft Document Capture for which we prepared a detailed featured add-on article and demonstration video.

Product Notes

Alfresco released Community Edition 4.2.f, which is a security update for the problems listed in Security Advisory 6. We recommend that users of Alfresco Community Edition upgrade as soon as possible. Patched versions of Alfresco Enterprise are available through the support portal.

There was also an upgrade to Alfresco in the cloud which included many improvements to the interface including the user trashcan link, filmstrip view, table view, and the ability to opt-out of activity feeds on a per-site basis. It also includes CMIS 1.1 features such as the browser binding in the public API.

Changes to the IRC Channel

Community Contributor Spotlight

Oksana Kurysheva is a technical project manager at ITD Systems. She created the community translation process that is used to translate Alfresco into dozens of languages, including her native Russian.

Oksana says: “The Alfresco community is like a big family. There are hundreds of people you meet every day on IRC or Alfresco Forums, see their commits to Github projects. We speak different languages and sometimes are afraid of misunderstanding each other. But when you see all these faces at Alfresco DevCon or a meetup, you feel like you are at home. You can share your thoughts and they will enjoy your wins and feel your failures together with you.”

The rest of our interview with Oksana is in the wiki.
