How to pass strings to a subprocess

Is it possible to pass a String constant to a Call Activiti process ?
While searching, I've noticed it is asked in the Activiti Engine board before
http://forums.activiti.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3352&start=0 and wondering if it is already supported in the new Designer.

I have the same requirement, I just want to be able to pass a String value as a parameter.

as soon as I posted the question, I figured it out.
Notation ${} works, 
e.g. to  pass the value "someString" to var2 in the sub process.
