I have just installed the latest alfresco community on windows server 2008r2 (64 bits)
There's a bug on the installer, that when it is creating the folder where you are going to install, it doesn't assign permissions correctly and postgresql fails to run, therefore aborting.
Workaround is to create the folder manually and assign permissions yourself.
Now the system runs and i go to the repository. I see some folders created by the system itself, so i deleted some of them.
Next step, i want to create a folder. But it gives me an error "could not create folder. duplicate folder name?"
Also, if i try to upload a .doc file to an existing folder, it says Failure error 500 internal server error.
Since the installer has the permissions bug i guess it's quite possible that there could be a bug related to permissions to upload files or create folders, however i don't see any folder name i can recognize on the installed directory.
I am using the default admin account and the system is being run by the domain\administrator account. Can someone help?

I saw in the forum that people suggested to disable the flashuploader. I did, and now alfresco won't even load. I tried restarting tomcat and says that it cannot find the repository. I decided to reinstall alfresco as it would be quicker and now file upload works again. Note that this was a stock install with absolutely no changes except changing 127.0.0.1 to the hostname of the server in the properties file and now disabling flash.
so far my impressions aren't good, i find the system quite unstable, i don't know if the windows build is supposed to be beta

I'm sorry that your first impressions haven't been good - this is definitely something we'd want to correct.
Which version of Alfresco have you downloaded? Is it the latest 5.2 Early Access release (which is still in testing, hence the "Early Access" and you could have hit an issue with the installer that we need to fix before GA) or is this one of the previous Community releases?

I used the latest stable release, 5.1 i believe, filename is alfresco-community-installer-201605-win-x64.
Another bug i am experiencing is that using the included app to stop/or restart tomcat, it always fails. You can see in the windows services window that the service is "stopping" but remains stuck there. I have to manually kill the tomcat7.exe process
According to your forum, the bug regarding the installer permissions was reported in 2013 i think and the only workaround listed is to create the folder and assign permissions yourself. I think the installer can use icacls properly to assign permissions correctly to avoid this problem.

The Windows installer for the latest stable release (201605GA) has been a reliable installer. Our data suggests that one third of the installations of Alfresco Community Edition are on Windows. It is more likely that your problems are specific to your environment than that you are hitting a bug in the installer.
Based on your symptoms, my first guess is that you have an anti-virus running or some other security system that is interfering with Alfresco. Otherwise, it does appear that something is wrong with the permission setup on that machine. Based on your description, once you figure out what is going wrong you should reinstall from scratch as that installation would be hard to recover into a consistent state.
I am not an experienced Windows administrator, and so I can't offer you any more help. Hopefully someone more experienced than I will volunteer some assistance.

The documentation says to use a local administrator account, which i missed. So it seems that Alfresco doesn't expect people to use domain administrators accounts.
At least i got it to work.
