I'm looking into the rules that can be set on folders for certain events (e.g. file upload) I noticed that one of the rules that can be set runs a custom script:
My question is:
What can these scripts actually do?

Basically you have an option to run the script on rule.On whic kind of event this rule will be fire , that you already have an idea.
Its regarding what kind of operation you can perform, this script options will allow user to select the script which resides inside the data dictionary/script folder.
There are a lot many thing you can do with the script. All the Javascript/Java api you have an access. For java you need to create custom action executer for using it.
There are few sample script which you can take a look.
