If you tried something, and it failed for some reason, it would be useful to have the link what you tried, and in case you faced errors, also, the error messages.
The configuration is as simple as editing the alfresco-global.properties file, and setting the database related properties, like host, port, user and password.
Other than that, your PostgreSQL server has to be configured to accept external access, as by default, it will accept only local connections.
