Does Activiti supports MSSQL 2016?

I am able to make activiti work with MSSQL2008 instance. I am planning to migrate all my database instances to 2016 instances. Hence Activiti database also needs migration. But somehow I am not able to connect with my MSSQL 2016 instance via code. It fails while setting up a connection with database.

Does Activiti supports MSSQL 2016 instance? Is there anything specific needed while migrating from 2008 to 2016. Do note that right now I do not have any data and hence it is equivalent to fresh setup.

I am able to set my connections up. Does any one encountered any performance gain/loss with MSSQL 2016 compared to 2008?

Is your question related to independent Activiti Engine or Alfresco Activiti? if its Alfresco Activiti and if its the latest version then the Enterprise edition is not certified on MS SQL  2016.
