AOS - Document read only if Word will be closed without saved changes

Hi,

I am using the Alfresco Version Community - 6.0.7 (r2ba893dd-b113) with the ability to edit Office documents online. 

This is working via Alfresco and also via an external client with the correct URL if there is an interaction with the AOS service. 

If there is nothing to save or if i only open a MS Word document via the "Edit in Microsoft Office™" button and close the MS Word application without making anything the file will be read only in future. There is no lock in the Alfresco web application visible. 

Is there a possibility to avoid this?

Steps to reproduce:

1. Upload a Word doc (docx) to Alfresco
2. Click the uploaded doc to see the details page
3. Open the doc via the "Edit in Microsoft Office™" button
4. Enter new text to the doc and save (title will show something like "upload via sharepoint") ==> OK
5. Open the doc via the "Edit in Microsoft Office™" button
6. Close MS Word without any change
7. Open the doc via the "Edit in Microsoft Office™" button

==> Error; the doc from now will be opened only as read only

So, which configuration you use? OS, Word-Version ? What did you tried on the local machine? Somewhere is a status change from :Alfresco allow to work on the doc TO Opening in Word and deny to work on the doc. Who is guilty, Alfresco or Word ?

I'm experiencing the same issue. did anyone fix this?

on my Mac what I can see is that:

- the first time I open the doc the tmp file created is in R+W mode

- the second time the file is in R mode only.

what I do not understand is if this is an Alfresco issue or an Office (365) issue.

just a quick update.

I downgraded to Office 2016 and now seems to work to me.

so the issue seems related to Office 365.

We have the same (or a similar) problem:

• opening a document from Alfresco Share or Alfresco Content App results in a document opened in read only mode
• opening a document from a network drive (pointing to Alfresco AOS URL) results in a document opened in read/write mode

Server environnment:

• Alfresco CE 5.2.g
• AOS 1.1.8 correctly installed (online editing works with Office 2016 (not 365))

Client environnment:

• Windows 10 Pro v1809
• Office 365 Business v16.0.12527.20064 (32 bit)

Can anyone help me?

Hi,

Ive got the same issue than Luca_ow. with exactly the same client/server configuration than him.

Seems related to Office365 versions, especially with 20XX versions.

Ive try downloading Office365 and versions 19XX seems better, but they are still unstables.

However, downloading to Office 2016 works like a charm, but this solution doesn't make me happy because it's in contrast with the company's strategy (migrating & working with O365 tools).

Is the Alfreso team aware of the problem ? any idea how to solve that ?

we also have problems with readoonly mode in Word. We are using Alfresco 6.0.7 and option for editing in  Office 365 Word opens documents in read-ony mode. Excel works fine. We tried in Word 2016 and it worked ok, but specifiction says that 365 should also work... Then we tried version 6.1.1  and it works the same . We have version 18  of Ofiice 365 ..does it need to be 16?

If so are there any plans to upgrade this functionality so that it works with higher version?
