"No items" red bar in Alfresco 5.1.0/f?

Hello Alfresco Community,

Problem:
I'm running Alfresco Community 5.1.0  (Share: 5.1.f) and for some reason in private sites, with folders,
some folders that are fully gray (closed?) have a red bar going across them with the labal "No Items". All create folder and file buttons are grayed out and have no other options. To the contrary, folders that have a different icon that seem to denote an open folder (gray folder with white top outline denoting 'open'?) don't seem to have the issue.

Troubleshooting:
Attempted reconfiguring permissions, recreating folders.

Question:
As it seems to be an issue posted about in JIRA in the past, is this something I can fix within Admin tools, requires a restart, or something more involved like upgrading to 5.2 (not a bad idea)?

The no items red bar would usually indicate either that the current user is trying to access content that they don't have permission to view or are trying to access content that no longer exists (for example using a URL to a folder that has since been deleted). Because the buttons are also disabled this would indicate a permissions problem.

Since you've said that this is occurring on private sites can you confirm that the user has appropriate permissions to access that site?

One other option for debugging would be to open the developer tools in your browser and inspect the XHR request that is made when attempting to get the details of the folder contents. The response body should provide more information on what is happening. If this is a permission issue then you're likely to see a return status code of 401.

As Dave Draper‌ said it could be permission issue. If not then check your logs. Looks for errors, post it here.

Thanks for your replies, I double checked permissions, and users should be fully permitted to view content within the folders in the private site.

One thing I noticed was that this only happens when I make folders with spaces in their name, i.e. "Documents Here" vs "Documents".

Dave, I checked for a 401 on the browser with one hit for an html search of '401', but I'm not sure if it's a 401 error or just some string. I posted another screenshot to illustrate the folder thing and the 401 hit.

Mittal, thanks. Where should I look for these logs?

Thanks a lot guys.

Hi guys,

Removing spaces from the folder name seemed to solve the issue.

Is this filed as an official bug/fixed in 5.2?

Solved for us by changing folder names to NOT use spaces. Example: change "Folder Name" to "Folder_Name"...!!!

Nick & Tony, what Tomcat versions are you running? This sounds awfully familiar.
