Make sure Alfresco is shutdown (completely, including PostgreSQL), copy in your backup folder, restart Alfresco

I have moved the content store and contentstore deleted to server location in previous installation. In globalproperties if I point the content store and contentstoredeleted to the server location, I am unable to start alfresco or share. I even tried solr reindexing but its not working

Contentstore is only part of the story, you need to have the matching PostgreSQL database. If you did the default install and if you have backed up the installation directory then there is a folder alf_data and that has the contentstore and the PostgreSQL files. If you have moved things around or did not do a default install then you will need to bring back the alf_data folder from wherever that was. It is also possible that the PostgreSQL database was not in alf_data, again, by default it is but it can be moved.

Here is what I followed:

1. Installed alfresco 4.2 e (didnt check share point, google doc integration)
2. Didnt start tomcat
3. Deleted the C:/Alfresco folder
4. Copied old C:/Alfresco folder
5. Started tomcat

Still I am not able to start share or alfresco. How to restore please help me. I dont have copy of all the source  files to upload again.

I made a clean installation again and tried. This time copied everything except alf_data. Now its working. How to restore the old alf_data?

Your test suggests that the contents of your alf_data are either incomplete or corrupt. When you took the copy was Alfresco completely shut down?

What errors are you getting in your logs?
