I am new to alfresco and i am searching for a good book. However, whatever book I search is on older versions of Alfresco and nothing on 5.0 version. Pls suggest a good book for Developer.

I think that the API of Alfresco is not changed so much but it is only extended during the life of the platform.
Probably all the books are useful in the same way, the Alfresco developers had deep attention about API extension so I think that all the examples should be valid for Alfresco 5.
Please notice that for some books there is the availability of a second edition updated with the latest improvements.
Many of the changes are only related to the Alfresco Share, that is a demo of a potential collaboration client of Alfresco.
If you are considering to extend the repository there is no difference. You will find just some extensions about subsystems and configuration.
Hope this helps

I am actually having Alfresco Developer Guide (from PACKT) and the latest version that this book offers is 2.x. Is it good to make a start even though I have installed 5.0.d?

Hello, i strongly suggest that you look at former alfresco community manager Jeff Potts tutorials. Beside looking at alfresco official documentation wich Contains lots of useful informations about administering and dev on alfresco 5.0, go to ecm-architect.com and start jeff Potts alfresco developper series tutorials. All you need to know to start extending alfresco is there. It has been updated in the early 2015.

I maintain a list of Alfresco books in the wiki: https://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Books
Jeff's tutorials are great: http://ecmarchitect.com/alfresco-developer-series
But I think the best place to learn is currently the official documentation. We have rewritten a lot of it to make it more useful for developers. This is the page to start with:
