Need to scan card size documents landscape/horizontally

We want to have the users scan card size documents landscape/horizontally, and have FOS display/store them that way.  We are using a Fujitsu scanner.  Unfortunately, there is not a way to do this.  I have only found a way to scan it portrait/vertically, and then FOS rotates it to landscape/horizontal.  It is difficult to tell the users to scan it vertically, and then FOS displays it horizontally.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Hi Ann,

I presume that in the FOS config, you have the scanner device paper size set to "card" for the button(s) assigned for business cards?  When it is set this way, FOS tells the scanner that we want to scan a business card sized document, and then the scanner's hardware decides how it wants the card.  In your case with the Fujitsu scanners, the device is designed to scan them vertically through the feeder, then the scanner auto-rotates them to be horizontal.  Unfortunately, if this is the way your particular scanner accepts business card sized documents, FOS can't really override it.  The only other option would be to set the XML config to scan in "letter" size instead and put the business card through horizontally, but this would have the side-effect of making the resulting image be a blank letter size image with the business card taking up only a small portion of the image.  I'm guessing this probably isn't really what you want, but it may be the only way to scan the card horizontally and have it remain that way in the resulting image -- unless you want to consider a different scanner model that may support scanning business cards horizontally.

You could provide a unique scan queue for these documents and tie a custom processing step for rotation.  See Process Options on the scan queue for Image Processing and from there you can select a rotation option.
