I have downloaded and in process of testing community edition 5.2 on windows with Alfresco Office Services using SSL and LDAP configuration. While using Microsoft Office, it is asking for login information. Is this by design and expected? Thanks!

When you use Edit Online, Office makes a connection to Alfresco via AOS. This needs credentials to be successful.
If you want to get rid of the login prompt you can configure Alfresco to use SSO via Kerberos.
