By default you can not see the document type in OOB alfresco.
Using node browser you can check it, but that is available for only admin user.
Other option will be to customize the document library.
1.Use indicator : for each document you cna define your own icon which will be displayed on document browse view.
2.Use metadata template to add type of document in document browse view.

I agree with Krutik and the approaches outlined in his post. An additional option is to create a custom form control that displays the type. You can then use Share form config to display the property on the document details page.
